Please note that cordless products will normally have a shorter warranty of just 1 Year for the battery and or charger supplied. It's very good under load, with the drill constantly adjusting the speed as the torque increases and decreases to keep it at your dialled in speed. Taking the machine out of its box, I noticed that it felt quite weighty - usually a good sign of a well engineered product.

Whenever you are drilling metal, don't forget to use lots of lovely cutting fluid, to help to keep your bit cool). The drill provides excellent visibility with a laser crosswire that allows the workpiece to be precisely positioned before drilling and an LED worklight that keeps the work area well illuminated and free from shadows. This is vital to getting good results, as different materials and drill bit sizes require different speeds for efficient use. Whether by design or not, it probably helps more than it hinders, given my experience of bits never being perfectly straight either. The built in work light is more than adequate and the laser guide crosshairs system eliminates guesswork.I absolutely love it and wish I had spent the money years ago as it would have made my life much easier a long time ago. On the other hand, the Bosch's clear speed readout, ease of setting exact, repeatable speeds and the excellent laser cross hairs suit my purposes very well - they may not be what everyone needs. When the drill arrived the bosch seal on the box had been broken and i was not happy with the way the drill was packed so i requested a replacement. Every small bench top drill press I have seen requires the DP to clamped or bolted down, I have to wonder if these reviewers have ever reviewed / used a similar sized standard DP?

I've lost enormous amounts of sleep reading about chuck wobble on drills but one thing i have recently discovered is that none of my drill bits are perfectly straight either. You tighten it by hand and turn a locking ring but I am sure I will get used to that and it seems to hold the drill bit securely and accurately. Very actuate for drilling the same depth hole time and time again and great for countersinking multiple holes to the correct depth.Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). A : I checked with Bosch to see if they could provide any more specifics on the drilling capacity of the PBD 40 and they advised that with the drill head at the very top of the column there is 285mm between the front face of the chuck and the bed. The Bosch bench drill delivers precise and comfortable drilling in many different kinds of materials making it ideal for furniture and model building as well as renovation work.

This isn't the first Bosch i've given bad notes for, perhaps the fact that they are produced in china has alot to answer for the bad quality control; and it's poor. The laser marker is accurate and the power of the unit seems more than adequate for a DIYer like me.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I was at the point of going upmarket to try to get better belts until I realised I needed the floor space more than I needed the pedestal. The biggest problem I see with large bits is the potential for uneven cutting pressure around the perimeter of the bit causing the lighter construction of the column and drill head mounting to tweak slightly, the results should be obvious especially at the start of a cut. I lock the column up tight with the lever to remove any horizontal movement, I'd have to really lay into / abuse that lever for no good reason to have a chance of breaking / stripping it. The reason I gave it a lower value for money is that it is quite noisy and I would have thought for the money this could be better. The drill is accurate enough for woodworking projects and has plenty of torque and rpm for any DIY enthusiast. The Chuck is easy to use, lock and unlock but - my assessment of what happened - prolongued use, and thus Bit heat at high (max) revs, doing fairly tough demanding work, causes sufficient expansion of BOTH the Chuck and the Bit to 'fuse' to a minor extent - certainly enough to prevent easy, 'designed' release of the Bit once unlocked.
