It wasn’t the worst thing that happened, October 7 was the worst thing that happened, but it really hurt. The constant repeating of "these are my best friends" "we've known each other forever" "he's the best looking guy I know" we get it girl, we get it. Initially, I was wary of how Doherty would take on issues of sexual assault because the first book was so much more different in tone than this one but I really liked Four Doors Down and, while I think it would have been better as a standalone, I was curious to see where the story would go. For example, she was married at least twice, but never clarified the number of times she had been married, "for fear of sounding frivolous.

Although all her books have been bestsellers, her poetry has not been perceived to be as serious as her prose and has been understudied. In 2014, Angelou received a lifetime achievement award from the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials as part of a session billed "Women Who Move the Nation". I didn’t feel anything other than extreme frustration, disgust, anger, and every other negative feeling out there while reading this book. According to Glazier, Angelou's use of understatement, self-mockery, humor, and irony have left readers of Angelou's autobiographies unsure of what she left out and how they should respond to the events she described. The first book was mindless fluffy cuteness and I liked the characters enough to just jump into this second book without reading the blurb. Beginning in the 1990s, she made approximately 80 appearances a year on the lecture circuit, something she continued into her eighties. Angelou's lack of critical acclaim has been attributed to both the public nature of many of her poems and to Angelou's popular success, and to critics' preferences for poetry as a written form rather than a verbal, performed one. I’m dragging my carry-on along behind me; I only brought hand luggage because I didn’t want to waste a single second when I got off the plane. Becca decided years ago that he wasn’t worth her time and nothing, NOTHING, is going to change her mind.

In 1993, Angelou recited her poem " On the Pulse of Morning" at the presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton, becoming the first poet to make an inaugural recitation since Robert Frost at John F.those horrible memories can't be erased (Becca SAW him having sex with that other bitch, like ACTUALLY saw it -- how do you get past that? I laugh with delight, hugging him back until he silences me with a kiss so passionate I lose my breath and have to pull back. After Angelou's marriage ended in 1954, she danced professionally in clubs around San Francisco, including the nightclub The Purple Onion, where she sang and danced to calypso music. I’m really stuck on this book now especially because its contemporary and the setting is in college and I’ve just realised how much i miss reading this genre bc all i’ve been reading the past year are fantasy, historical and just books not revolving around college /high school rivalries etc.
