About this deal

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is a very memory sensitive title as here the 1660 Super enjoys a 13% performance boost thanks to the faster memory and that placed it within a few frames of the more expensive Ti model.

Expanded Memory: Harness the power of a robust 6GB GDDR6 memory, ensuring zero lag and fluid gameplay. He eventually built his first custom PC in 1990 with a 286 12MHz, only to discover it was already woefully outdated when Wing Commander was released a few months later. Every setting is tested multiple times to ensure the consistency of the results, and I use the best score. Powered by the same supercharged NVIDIA Turing architecture used in the RTX series and combined with a thoroughbred GeForce GTX pedigree.

The GTX 1660 Super actually managed to beat the GTX 1660 Ti in FFXV during the the 4K test, which suggests this game in particular is better at taking advantage of the higher memory clock on offer (14Gbps in the GTX 1660 Super, versus just 12Gbps in the GTX 1660 Ti). From the first S3 Virge '3D decelerators' to today's GPUs, Jarred keeps up with all the latest graphics trends and is the one to ask about game performance. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super is based on the same TU116 GPU as both the GTX 1660 and the GTX 1660 Ti, but has the same 1,408 CUDA cores as the original 1660. The GeForce GTX SUPER TM Series has ultra-fast GDDR6 memory, bringing you performance that’s up to 50% faster than the original GTX 16 Series and up to 2X faster than previous-generation 10 Series GPUs. With the Heat Pipe Direct Touch, the GPU and VRAM receive effective cooling, thanks to the direct contact with the copper heat pipe, which maximizes heat dissipation.

The Nvidia Super series has been kind of hit and miss – with the RTX 2080 being a notable flop – but we can't recommend the GTX 1660 Super enough. Even more curious, the GDDR6 memory is clocked at 14Gbps compared to the 12Gbps speed on the 1660 Ti. The reason for the higher noise levels is pretty simple: EVGA isn't using a particularly robust heatsink, relying instead on fan speeds and airflow to keep the card cool. Here's a quick look at total system consumption and as you can see the 1660 Super sucks down a little more power than even the Ti model. The 11 games I'm testing include a pretty even mix of AMD and Nvidia promoted titles, currently with more AMD promoted games. There's driver support for DirectX Raytracing (DXR), but generally speaking you won't get much above 30 fps even at 1080p with the GTX 1660 models. The big question is what it adds up to: Did we really need the GeForce GTX 1660 Super, whether in Zotac Super Twin Fan form, or any form? The fourth and fifth installments in the Far Cry series are based on DirectX 11, but still demanding.

Though the GTX 1660 Super beat the non-Super GTX 1660 in 1440p results, it seems to have slipped slightly on 1080p.It's important to note that the 1660 Super (and 1650 Super) are intended to coexist with the other GTX 16-series GPUs, rather than replacing anything. We also carry out reliability trials that include a 144-hour stability test and a series of 3DMark benchmarking runs to ensure the card performs well when pushed to the limits. Sorry VirtualLink hopefuls; you'll have to connect your VR headset the old-fashioned way on this one. That boosts performance a few percent in practice, and while you wouldn't normally notice the difference while playing games, it will certainly show up in the benchmarks.

I questioned the lack of 14Gbps GDDR6 on the 1660 Ti when it came out, and assumed it was mostly because it wasn't really necessary, but it would have made a lot more sense to equip that card with faster VRAM and then have the 1660 Super use 12Gbps.The display of third-party trademarks and trade names on this site does not necessarily indicate any affiliation or the endorsement of PCMag. We advise pairing GTX 16 series GPU's with at least a four or six-core Intel Core i5 processor or AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.
