I was fortunate to get an advance copy of this book via NetGalley (I chose it because of the cover) and I am glad that I did because it did not disappoint in subject or characters. Alice has to come to terms with her gift, she can read a person, so this comes in handy as it keeps her and others safe, she’s also blessed with a green thumb and it opens lots of unexpected opportunities for her. The book is a laudable effort and appeals to you if you are patient and want to understand a unique life. Alice Kelly is eight when she notices everyone has a color, it displays what the person is feeling, their mood and much more.

Thank you NetGalley, Cecelia Ahern, and HarperCollins UK for allowing me to read an advanced copy of In a Thousand Different Ways. How can one move in a society without fear, if one can see and feel the darkest intentions of some people for instance at a children´s playground?Alice has a rare condition – Synesthesia, due to which she see colours as a sort of aura when she sees people.

First off if this was the first book of Cecelia I had read I would not read any more, I also feel if this is how her books are going to be from now on I don’t think I will bother in future. Alice sees colours in people from when she was 8, her mum and brothers sometimes struggle to understand her, as does Alice herself.Life didn’t get much easier as she got older and her mother experienced serious illness while her younger brother went off the rails. First off this is a story about Alice and her life of seeing people’s aura’s good and bad, now the story it’s self was ok but it was a bit jumpy for my liking one minute she was at her brothers house the next she was in a pub looking for her Dad. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password. Since then I haven't been able to muster courage to read another Ahern or maybe none of the other books held my attention the way PS: ILY did. For me, the story moved at a good pace, covering relationships and life, without the content becoming entrenched in the details, that the reader is able to fill for themselves; the style of narration allows the reader to sense the weight and impact of Alice's decisions.

I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I wept quite a lot on and off all the way through and it observes human nature very well. I know the adage it is not the destination but the journey that matters, but Alice's journey is more of the same. They’re raised by their mother Lilli, who to be honest is not going to win any mother of the year prizes any time soon.

The last part of her family was in super fast forward mode like done around the publishing deadline.

Both novels were adapted to films; PS I Love You starred Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler, and Love, Rosie starred Lily Collins and Sam Claflin.
