About this deal

In homage to those halcyon days, I am going to do my best to persuade my train loving, baking-reluctant little boy to make some of these cute little sweets with me at the weekend. In the early days of our marriage I couldn't boil an egg never mind make a Victoria sponge and I struggled.

There is a special section covering the London Olympics too, with some fascinating facts about the Olympics generally and the previous London Olympics. This book contains beautifully illustrated r ecipes, which have been retained from the original Dairy Boo k of Home Cookery. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. It’s a nice size cook book, not one of those books that takes up so much room on your worksurface there’s none left for you to spread out your ingredients. It is also completely indispensable when it comes to British pies, roasts, biscuits, and most other traditional staples. This Coconut Icerecipe is taken from The Dairy Book of Home Cookery, a family heirloom in its own right!

Before I bought this book my hubby was forever taking me out for a meal and I always thought how romantic. Even though I live and breathe Dairy Diary, I confess that I don’t keep them all – I just cut out the recipes and keep them in ‘Mummy’s Recipe Folder’ – so I wouldn’t be at all offended if people admit that they throw away their old copies! I also have the Dairy Book of Family Cookery from 1983 marking the 50th anniversary of the Milk Marketing Board, not quite as dog eared as the first one but still well loved.I was also given a beautiful Dairy Diary Gift set which is for 2012 so obviously, I haven’t used it yet but I have looked through it thoroughly and love it, there are also some great recipes in the pages of the larger diary. Probably lost in a house move along with Larousse Gastronomique which I was bought and NEVER used, unlike the Dairy one. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.

With basics, such as white sauce, gravy and Victoria sponge, as well as indispensable recipes including sausage rolls, Chelsea buns and even new classics, like pesto and paella, you'll wonder how you survived without it! Cover with greaseproof paper to stop excess evaporation, cover with a lid and cook for 2 hours, turning over lamb after 1 hour.Classic cooking techniques: Now is the time to replace your battered old copy and to introduce family and friends to The Dairy Book of Home Cookery, with this super anniversary edition. I am showing how I have changed, I used to be furious with DH if he bought a cookbook as a present, but this morning to find this offer on our doorstep has made my day, along of course with a promised visit by DGD and parents later. A book leaves our collection of over seven million titles and begins a new chapter every two seconds, enabling more goods to be reused.

Generally, cook for 40 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4 and continue cooking for 11⁄2–2 hours, basting frequently until cooked. The first choice for millions of cooks – including Celebrity MasterChef winners – every kitchen should have a copy! There is some very simple advice Mum has passed on, such as, leaving the covers back each morning to air the bed and putting a pudding in the oven whilst the roast is cooking (to make the most of the energy used). Add seasoning and use scissors to snip the chives straight in – you are aiming for about 4 tbsp of the chopped chives.I’ve had a few Dairy Diaries over the years and they always contain some lovely recipes, so I was delighted to be sent the 2012 edition. I put these books in a safe place as I was moving home and recently got this book out and I baked the “Fruit crumble” featured in the book and I plan on making a few other family favourites soon. We give people around the world the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet, by trading their unwanted books and media.
