When Aisling Cooley discovers that her DNA has been discovered at a recent crime scene, the implication is clear. Lodge kept me guessing, and second-guessing myself, at the edge of my seat, until the exciting final scenes. She has signed with Penguin Random House worldwide for the first three books in her crime series featuring DCI Jonah Sheens. The author did a great job sparking discussion about that issue, but all in all, I don't think I'll be reading another Jonah Sheens mystery.

I think there is potential and definitely some hidden pasts that you want to uncover and find how everything is connected, but for me I have to pass. You can see the twist coming from a mile away, but if everyone had acted normal and the detectives had done their job properly, the book would've ended about 60 pages earlier. Part of what makes this series so enjoyable is Jonah Sheens himself and the small team he has around him.

With its well-developed characters, intricate plot, and suspenseful atmosphere, A Killer in the Family is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. The ending didn't thrill me because I'm not a fan of cliffhangers - and there are two gobsmackers here. We also meet her two sons, Finn and Ethan, who are chalk and cheese, but also seem to be nursing secrets. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. As he delves into the victim's life, he uncovers a trail of deceit and betrayal that leads him to suspect a member of her own family.

That the story was very complex, with quite a few people to keep track of, made it even harder to process. It's something that is currently untested, but one which a lot of conspiracy theorists will already be up in arms about no doubt. Ever since becoming estranged from her own parents, though, she's always felt like a piece of her is missing. The storyline is easy to follow and is told completely in the present day, so there is very little confusion. I'm pretty sure much of that comes because it's the first in the series that I've read, and what background was included wasn't sufficient for me to be able to really "connect" with any of the characters. In Gytha Lodge's gripping novel, A Killer in the Family, we are drawn into a tangled web of secrets and lies that threatens to tear a family apart. The author’s writing style was complex, twisty, suspenseful, multidimensional, mind bending, and brilliant.

This is a fast-paced, well-plotted police procedural which provides satisfying tension and the investigation progresses.I love a happy, supportive, cohesive team, working on one myself IRL, so appreciate that representation here. I'm not a big fan of my own family, so finding out what's been hiding out in the wood pile is a bit unnerving. This revelation is understandably both upsetting and deeply shocking for Aisling - she can't believe either of her beloved sons could possibly have committed these crimes and doesn't feel it would be consistent with her long-missing father's personality, either. It has some shocking reveals and twists, and a nice balance of investigative work with character development for both the family that finds itself embroiled in the case and the team of investigators, advancing storylines for the series.

She studied English at Cambridge University and received an MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.I haven’t read the other books in the DCI Sheen series, but this book definitely made me want to go out and read them. It became an international bestseller in 2019, and was a Richard and Judy book club pick, as well as a Sunday Times and New York Times crime pick. The Jonah Sheens series can be read as stand-alones, but the detailed character history and entangled relationships are laid out across the previous novels, and without this information the novel won’t be nearly as engaging. A Killer in the Family was so good, so unbelievably mind-blowing, that I honestly don’t know if this review will be able to adequately describe its perfection. His younger brothers Ricky, who spends his days doing nothing, and Ray, who is a farm laborer, decide (convinced that he is going to be killed by a fellow inmate) to break their father out of prison.
