Lucy Kirkwood’s romantic drama marks Michael Longhurst’s final production as artistic director of the Donmar. While the study of anatomy is grounded strongly in the principles of systematic scientific analysis and experimentation, the meaningful power and art behind an anatomical illustration cannot be readily dismissed. Stelarc was testing his theory that in the new-tech environment of the modern world, humans rarely experience real physical awareness. The performer's body was manipulated by a series of computer interfaced muscle stimulators which send electrical impulses of between 0 and 60 volts to cause the involuntary contraction of the muscle in a series of choreographed movements.

Kids (and their parents) can get more information about what is going on with their bodies and read it in the privacy of their own home. The play is set in 1948 and centres on GP and Labour party councillor Iris Elcock (Keeley Hawes), working to implement Nye Bevan’s new National Health Service Act. The chapters divide neatly into The Skeletal System, The Muscular System, The Respiratory System, The Cardiovascular System, The Digestive System, The Excretory System, The Endocrine System, The Reproductive System, The Immune System, The Nervous System, and the senses (not to mention an early section on cells, elements, and molecules). While Ancient Greek anatomists like Galen had only dissected animal bodies, human dissection was commonplace in Persia as far back as the 10th millennium BC.

Just a note to parents and teachers: Chapter 8, "Guys and Dolls" discusses reproductive systems, and while it doesn't depict any sexual acts, it does get pretty clear about some of the changes in puberty (menstruation) as well as describing erections. I thought if he enjoyed it that much, I'd better read it myself and see what he liked so much about it! No, the body one must develop it oneself it's worth nothing and won't hold up and it is born of talent and quality, it is born of deeds done. He created the experimental method in medical investigation, developed by his anatomical investigation of animal bodies.
