About this deal

The main section is on drawing the head. The other lessons look at body proportions, poses, hands and feet, clothing, perspective, and lighting and shadow. Those lessons are short but do cover enough material for you to get started. These utensils have so much potential for exciting learning fun, boredom busters, and, of course, writing. You can appreciate the value of such a method, for you know the fundamentals even before you start; they are obvious to anybody. If you never saw a ball, you should quit right now.

Now this plan of action is based on the use of simple forms that are already known and familiar to you, and which you can certainly draw. By building preliminary shapes and developing the outlines on them, we know WHERE TO DRAW OUR REAL LINES. There is hardly anything that cannot first be constructed by the use of simple forms. You know exactly what I mean. Instead of “line/’ we shall think in terms of concrete and tangible “form,” and proceed as if we were handling lumps of clay.Your drawing appears us complicated and difficult to the other fellow as mine might seem to q oa h i r you now.

We thus “arrive” at the outlines that are needed instead of guessing at them. Only the most talented end experienced artist can draw at once the final outlines.

THIS" REALLY SIMPLE BASIC STEP BY STEP DRAWING INSTRUCTION BOOK " WAS VERY MY FIRST DRAWING INSTRUCTION BOOK THAT GOT ME DEEPLY INTERESTED IN DRAWING!! While I mostly just scanned/gleaned through this, I do think this has a lot of decent material concerning some fundamentals of art while encouraging creativity, which is really good for beginners at any age from heads, posing, and perspective. MECHANICAL PENCIL: Give you a variety of choices of lead hardness to choose from. They also allow for drawing extra fine pencil line details.

Before we could walk we recognized the sphere in Dad’s new golf bulls; the cubes were in the sugar bowl; as for the eggs, well, the nicest ones were Easter eggs. There are many "Drawing Made Simple' books on the market today---BUT-- I found that they seem to have copied Andy Loomis's techniques or jump you into: GREY'S ANATOMY" Un livre précieux, très intéressant. En anglais. L'édition en elle-même est de très bonne facture comme tous les autres livres de cette collection. Le discours est un peu daté (écrit en 1939). For instance, the top of the head, or cranium, is nearer to a ball in shape than anything else. So we start with a bull and add to it the shapes we want. It's unfortunately got some racist caricatures that don't at all age well, with a couple bits that might be sexist by today's standards, but maybe I shouldn't be that surprised, since this book is nearly 80 years old, and some of the 20th century's more brutal, trying lessons hadn't been learned yet (WW2 and its horrors were only just getting started, and the Civil Rights movement was still 15 years off) I call these things when I see them, but I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater with these older texts. That procedure is most difficult and is the reason most people give up drawing, But knowing how to”construct” makes drawing simple and easy, and a delightful pastime to anybody.

The surprising part is that, when the construction lines are erased, very few could guess how it had been done. As you proceed to build all sorts of shapes out of simpler ones, it is amazing what you can do with them, and how accurate and “solid” the resulting drawings will appear.

Anything associated with the name of Andrew Loomis is gold. And this volume is no exception. It is only by comparison to the four previous works that this title should suffer. If you can shell out the do-re-mi, buy all five books - you won't regret it. It takes on a look of professional workmanship, which indeed it has, since the professional artist has by some method had to “construct” his work to make it “professional.”
