The tour and tasting experience at Louth Distillery lasts about an hour, and it’s really nicely balanced between learning the science and stories, as well getting to know the product itself. Payne notes that Beefeater Pink Strawberry is inspired by Beefeater’s founder James Burrough's creative curiosity. “A pharmacist by trade before becoming a distiller, Burrough's wonderful inventions included raspberry gin, cherry brandy, British Brandy, [and more],” he explains. “Beefeater continues to embrace Burrough’s passion for colliding quality craftsmanship with experimentation and has created this natural strawberry gin for the new generation of drinkers.” Paye recommends using Beefeater Pink Strawberry to craft The Strawberry B&T by combining one part Beefeater Pink Strawberry with three parts of tonic over ice with fresh strawberries. Amy said: "We are absolutely thrilled that we have been able to grow our distillery from the garage, into what will be an industry leading distillery.

Originally the term “pink gin” was used to describe regular gin with a splash of angostura bitters. Nowadays, you can expect pink gins to be infused with a whole assortment of fruit, herbs and spices, including strawberries, rhubarb, grapefruit and rose petals. What does pink gin taste like? Mr Stansfield Bottomleywas a small scale whisky producer, beginning in West Yorkshire before moving on to Lincolnshire in the early 1980s. To begin with, Alan and Amy made their gin from an almost makeshift distillery in a garage, and in 2017 they launched their flagship product, Pin Gin. The name was a nod to another business idea Alan had come up with in the car – to make Christmas trees! This is also reflected in the pin icon you can see on the bottle branding.There is a friendly staff team at Louth Distillery, which has grown with increased demand for Pin Gin and a second flagship product, Rum Cat. But it was Alan himself who showed us around and explain how the process works. As part of our latest big gin taste test, our panel of spirits experts and gin-loving consumers tried 72 bottles, of which 22 fell into the pink gin category. Each was tried neat, and then again diluted with a small amount of water, to ensure the flavour was not impaired by any mixer.

We are really excited to be contributing to an already thriving visitor economy in Lincolnshire and cannot wait to see the positive effects of this, from job creation to increased visitor activity in Louth.” The latest step in the Louth Distillery journey is that the premises have been opened up for the public to take tours and see where the magic happens, as well as trying out various flavours of Pin Gin, or even making your own bottle. The distillery was founded in 2016 by Alan Bottomley and Amy Conyard, who initially started out by making gin in their garage.
