Some people may be turned off by the monochromatic color palette, however Murphy wields this well. He provides variety in the white space and in the remarkable details. Content Warning

Also, I don't think I've seen a real "punk" since the 1980's, the term, fashion, and lifestyle is out of date yet this is supposed to take place in the near future, but I guess HIPSTER JESUS doesn't have the same marketing appeal. In 2005 he published his first original graphic novel, Off Road, which went on to win an American Library Association Award for young adults. [1] Driven to Suicide: Gwen has a dream that she jumps off the balcony of her room at the psychiatric hospital after escaping J2, but is saved by what she believes is an angel. This leads to her renewed efforts to rescue Chris from J2. It's interesting you say artists need to see this "as a business and not as a hobby for celebrity artists." I know that you were an apprentice to an artist before attending art school. Do you think that helped shape your thinking and eliminated any adolescent notion that some of us may have had about art? Shout-Out: Several futuristic guns from various sci-fi films/series are seen throughout the story, including weapons from RoboCop, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Aliens and Appleseed. All of the Christians are one-dimensional caricatures. To even say they’re characters is giving Sean Murphy way more credit than he deserves. Murphy is simply a terrible writer - he doesn’t understand nuance or subtlety, so his characters, all of them, are pathetic creations that are totally unconvincing. All Christians are apparently super-crazy, gun-bearing, sign-toting loonies, and atheists are all intelligent, bar none. Like I said I’m not a Christian but I thought this was such a broad and unbelievably dumb swipe that I felt bad for any Christians reading this tripe. Someone to Remember Him By: After Cola is killed during the NAC raid on J2, Dr. Epstein clones a new bear cub using Cola's DNA, naming the new one "Coke" as a tribute. Batman: Beyond the White Knight (script and art, with Dave Stewart, sequel to Batman: White Knight and Batman: Curse of the White Knight, eight-issue limited series, DC Comics, March 2022 - February 2023) Social commentary on the Christian Fundamentalism of Middle America, the addiction to reality TV, the name of profit, the nature of belief versus science, sin and redemption, family, manipulation, mega-corporations, Mass Media over-consumption, and freedom. A multinational entertainment company starts a project called J2, which creates a clone from Jesus Christ's DNA, and make a 24 hour live reality show on clones daily life from birth. Half of the world considers it as the second coming of christ, and other half names him as the Antichrist and declares war against him, and the show TRP keeps getting higher and higher. The story unfolds with different characters around the project, and each of them has different reasons to be in this story.

I really liked the drawings, and the layouts are really good. The story starts well, but there´s something in the rythm of it that does not work for me, sometimes things feel rushed, and some other things happened to easyly. The "B" story is about a former IRA terrorist seeking redemption as Chris' bodyguard. When Thomas first came into the story, the reader's first impression would be that this stern guy is a Punisher clone. Thomas ends up more nuanced than Frank Castle. Though his name may suggest the doubting disciple, he's a believer, this Thomas is. Imagine the Truman Show, except with a clone of Jesus Christ, made with DNA samples taken from the Shroud of Turin...and implanted in a Teenage Virgin.

Hellblazer: City of Demons (with Si Spencer, five-issue limited series, Vertigo, December 2010 – May 2011, ISBN 1-4012-3153-5) Sarah Palin scared the shit out of me in 2007 -- I was floored that someone that ignorant could come so close to being President. And a lot of her comments were about religion, politics, and the media. It made me want to take action, but I was just a comic book artist and I wasn't sure what I could do. All Republicans are evil, all Christians are bigots, & America is a country brimming with the fat, lazy, and stupid. I mean, these are just facts, right? There are other moments where certain events obscure others that could´ve been greater. When the polar bear gets injured, that was so shoking that when Gwen gets trapped into the two doors was not as shoking as it cuold´ve. The Plot Holes #1-5 (script and art, with Matt Hollingsworth, Massive Publishing, September 2023 - December 2023)

Bears Are Bad News: Cola, the friendly polar bear Dr. Epstein domesticated, goes completely apeshit on the NAC goons who try to infiltrate the J2 island. Would I recommend this to anyone? No. I don’t really regret reading it because it was mildly entertaining and only took me a day. And I gave it an “it was okay” 2 star rating, so really it all just feels like a mild disappointment. O'Shea, Tim (January 18, 2010). "Talking Comics with Tim: Sean Murphy". Robot 6. Comic Book Resources . Retrieved January 19, 2010. The story isn't perfect and it has religious tones that I'd rather do without, but this was Murphy's first attempt at his own creator-owned work and his editor managed bring out the best he could do at that time. The art, without a doubt, is superb. This book, more than his past work, ensconced Murphy into the reader's consciousness that this guy is at the top of his art game.Having acquired DNA from the Shroud of Turin (a burial cloth believed to belong to Jesus), a media entertainment company decides to create a clone with the DNA and raise him on a reality show. Of course, to make it truer to the Bible, they decide to implant the egg into an 18-year-old virgin, Gwen Fairling. As he grows up, every aspect of “Chris’ ” life is controlled and manipulated. In school, he’s taught creationism and faith healing. Accidents and events set up by the network are “miracles” to the believing masses. Usually of a group of religious zealots hoarding guns don't have to wait too long before they meet their maker... 'round these here parts. He is also the creator of the Murphyverse, a sub-continuity that serves as the setting for stories featuring Batman that is separate from the main DC Universe continuity. These include Batman: White Knight and its sequels Curse of the White Knight and Beyond the White Knight, which Murphy wrote and illustrated.
