About this deal

My “other self” has taught me to concentrate upon my purpose and to forget about the plan by which it is to be attained when I go to prayer. Time. Time can make drifting and negativity permanent. But it can also make positivity and wisdom permanent. The sixth sense is the organ of the brain through which one receives all information, all knowledge, all thought impressions which do not come through one or more of the five physical senses.

You’re right in what you said, however, my concern is not with existing believers like you, who may rightly discern the language and concepts in the book. My concern is for non-believers, or new believers that might be mislead and buy into “universal intelligence” as being some impersonal force, aka “the universe.” It and other “law of attraction” content often can lead to self-serving desires and away from Christ and His kingdom purposes. Hill makes the statement about salvation in the book without regard to faith in Christ, though now it has been awhile since I read it and where that is. That in itself clearly is heretical. What, then, is an improper relationship? A Any relationship between people which damages anyone or brings any form of misery or unhappiness to any of the individuals.

The author explains that fear breeds indecision and doubt, which, in turn, can lead to stagnation and unfulfilled potential. To outwit the devil, one must learn to overcome fear and embrace positive influences and affirmations. Is Positive thinking really the key to Godliness? Probably not in those terms, but having FAITH is! Just what is the object of your faith? If it’s only faith in yourself, then you have a problem.

What we have is a great book, ruined by a second rate author simply using it as a pulpit from which to spout her views. When I go to see a great play, I want to see the actors perform, and I want to take away a message from the play and internally digest what I have seen. What I don't want to see is a critic from the local newspaper standing on the corner of the stage telling me what the author was thinking as he wrote the play, and then telling me what I should conclude about the play, how it relates to me, asking me open ended supposedly thought provoking questions, and telling me to love Jesus. One of the critical insights of Outwitting the Devil is that it's okay to be self-serving. We don't have to please everyone, and we're more effective if we put our needs first. By keeping up with our own purpose and values, we're more likely to be in the position to serve and help others. With the current economic uncertainties, people are choosing—or being forced—to find new paths to provide for themselves and their families, and many will find great success. They will be the great stories of success we will be reading about a few years from now. Will you be among those success stories or still watching from the sidelines? When they begin to think in constructive terms of faith, courage, hope, and definiteness of purpose, they immediately become allies of my opposition and are therefore lost to me. And my experience god truely works for your good when you belong to him…But don’t mess with these things and your walk, if you believe, live it daily with no compromise…. You dont want to go through life Luke warm and end up where you never wanted to be…..hell.

Sharon Lechter's interruption every 5 minutes is very distracting so I deleted them (see below). She just repeats what Hill said, added her opinion and then asked a question that made you feel like you were in a primary school classroom. Sharon may have had good intentions with her commentary but it does not add value. See, it’s not enough that “the law of attraction” or faith can work for you, get you out of debt or poverty, or even help people. From a salvation and eternal standpoint, it must be used in a connected love relationship with God. The book ends with Hill summarizing the insights he gained from his dialogue with the Devil. He emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, self-reliance, and personal responsibility in escaping the Devil’s control. Also Read: The Warmth of Other Suns Summary Key Lessons 1. The Importance of Having a Definite Purpose How do we know that the Devil is not outwitting us? Can we be prideful enough not to consider this book can get us off of our rest and identity in Christ and toward self-striving toward selfish ambitions and goals? I don't agree with this becoming a film itself, but I do feel that the devil in this form would make an interesting antagonist.
