Step one: Troubleshoot sound problems

Songs and movies that normally sound great might sound out of balance since the audio drivers are pushing the low end harder than normal. This might be great for gaming, but the bass in Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was more accentuated so that the bass seemed as noticeable as the vocals.

The HS55 Wireless Core features large, 50mm neodymium drivers, custom designed by Corsair. Bigger drivers are able to move more air and, when tuned correctly, are usually capable of delivering a bolder, more impactful sound than smaller drivers. Despite their large diameter, the drivers are easy to power and can rise to ear-crushing levels, so you won’t need to turn the volume to max to hear enemy footsteps creeping around the corner. They feature a standard frequency response range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, which is roughly equivalent to the range of the human ear. Do not leave the battery fully discharged for long periods. Battery life is maximized by keeping the battery in a partially charged state. While the low end on the newer HS55 Wireless is a bit disappointing, the inclusion of Dolby Audio 7.1 virtual surround sound more than makes up for it. When engaged, the soundstage is wider and more three-dimensional, making you feel like you’re right in the action. Turning on surround sound does soften the headset’s brightness a little bit, but that wider soundstage is worth it. And, even with it on, the sound imaging is still precise.If you’re a PS5 owner, then it’s also useful to know that the HS55 supports Sony’s 3D Audio functionality, although you could argue that’s a given – pretty much every PS5-compatible headset offers this when connected to Sony’s next-gen gaming behemoth. Those 50mm Neodymium audio drivers really do make games come alive, with every explosion or hit having a real robust sound. If there’s any criticism that we have with the performance of the Corsair HS55 Stereo, it is that the bass response can be a little strong. You might not hear it in your Discord or Facetime chat, but the problem is most notable with casual listening. And as for comfort the clamping pressure of this headphone is bit high but you will get used to it.

Unfortunately, the newer HS55 Wireless isn’t quite as solid when it comes to the low end. In games like Control and Cyberpunk 2077, I’ve noticed that explosions and other sounds that require that rumble for maximum effect just don’t have it – unlike the older HS55 Wireless Core, which delivers enough of it to give you just a bit of that body-shaking immersion. Corsair gives it better sound performance and more features for the same affordable price, which makes it a better value than before. As i said audio is subjective so you may not like the software integrated 7.1 audio. But to me it is fabulous. Corsair has always had a reputation for creating clean-looking products, and the Corsair HS55 Stereo conforms to that ideal. My review sample was of the white and silver colour option, which gives the headset a modern look.The biggest upgrade on the Corsair HS55 Wireless is in its sonic performance. While it does share a lot of similarities with the HS55 Wireless Core – they both tend to compress a little once the volume is over 50, it also corrects some of its predecessor’s flaws. I will say that this mic isn't quite as convenient as some others, however. My colleagues said it came through a little quiet in meetings, which wasn't much of an issue as the flexi-arm allows you to bend it a little closer to your face. However, once bent into place, I found it tends to catch my hair and rest against my face a little once flipped up. It's a small thing, but it makes it just a little bit fiddlier than other headsets I've tested.
