The combination of OLED and quantum dot technologies enables the S90C to deliver pure, accurate colours when watching HDR content, while Samsung’s video processing does a superb job upscaling lower-resolution source material.

All Reviews

Said picture performance features the sort of stunning contrast that only OLED can deliver, and the C3 is much punchier than rivals such as the Sony A90K. Colours are vibrant but natural, and there's plenty of subtlety to shading. The increased pixel density of having a 4K resolution crammed into a 42-inch display makes for superb sharpness and solidity, too. If you are familiar with the brand, you know that you’re getting a pretty decent deal, price-wise, as both Hisense and Sharp TVs are reasonably priced. We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Bath and Reading, where our team of expert reviewers do all of our testing. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency. What's more, all review verdicts are agreed upon by the team as a whole rather than an individual reviewer, again helping to ensure consistency and avoid any personal preference. Look up ‘unassuming’ in the dictionary and you will probably find a picture of the Samsung UE43AU7100. This 43-inch LCD TV doesn’t flaunt a particularly flamboyant design, doesn’t sell for a particularly outrageous price – either high or low – and its features list is certainly no Lord Of The Rings-style epic. Key specs – Screen sizes: 65in, 75in (tested) and 85in; Display type: Neo QLED LCD; Resolution: 8K/UHD (7,680 x 4,320); HDR formats: HDR10, HLG, HDR10+; HDMI inputs: 4 x HDMI 2.1; Operating system: Tizen OS

You don’t have to spend long in the AU7100’s company, though, to realise that a TV doesn’t have to be an extrovert to stand out from the crowd. Solid processing and a thoughtful, balanced picture that actually seems to have had some care and attention lavished on it can be more than enough. It’s not just the picture that benefits from LG’s latest processor, the sound does, too. Virtual sound channel up-mixing increases from 7.1.2 to 9.1.2, giving an even more immersive sound. Pair with an LG soundbar and the sophisticated processing splits the total sound output between TV and soundbar, for a richer, more enveloping sound. The Samsung QN90C is available in a wide range of sizes from 43 through to 85-inches, with the lower end bringing it to our list of the best smaller TVs. Its solid reflection handling and brightness makes it a good choice for lots of purposes and lots of rooms. We find that's often what most people want from a smaller TV: versatility. With the former, you only need to replace the HDMI cable, while the latter just means you have to wait for it to fix.

WIRELESS CONNECTION WITH MOBILE DEVICES

If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended. Aside from clearer images, another benefit of digital TV is the electronic programme guide (EPG), which can show you what’s on now or later at a glance. All TVs display “now” and “next” information in a small pop-up window, but most models also have a more in-depth fullscreen mode that shows seven or more days of scheduling. What ports and connections do I need?

LG’s OLED evo panel takes an already ‘gold standard’ in TV technology and makes it better. OLED uses self-illuminating pixels for superb contrast and picture realism. Evo technology enhances this with an additional luminous element that makes the picture brighter and the colour more vivid. Put simply, for a combination of natural, lifelike images and vivid detail OLED evo is the one to beat. The LG C1 was our favourite TV of 2021 and its successor improves on it in just about every way. It houses four HDMI 2.1 ports, with each one supporting 4k@120Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate in the form of Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync. Input lag is extremely low and LG’s Game Optimiser remains a great way of getting the best experience from your next-gen console or PC. The hub has been expanded this year, with new settings including a Dark Room mode and a picture setting for sports games. TCL has gradually been strengthening its foothold in the global TV market and the C845 represents the first chance UK consumers have to experience its top-tier Mini LED models. It’s priced extremely aggressively but doesn’t skimp on features and still manages to deliver impressive picture performance. Currently, three HDMI connections is standard on budget and mid-range TVs, while four is the norm for premium models. Sound quality is a little disappointing given that this is LG’s flagship 4K TV, and you’ll have to pay extra for a stand if you don’t want to wall mount it as there’s not one included, but otherwise, this mighty MLA-powered is hard to fault and one of the best televisions we’ve seen years.
