The show's producers did a fantastic job of painting a detailed picture of this beautiful game we all love so much. And if you are curious about the chess positions used in the show, I have great news for you! In this article, I've compiled a list of (almost) every chess position featured in "The Queen's Gambit." There's no doubt about it: " The Queen's Gambit" is a huge hit. With incredible performances by the actors, beautiful sets, and a well-constructed plot, it's no wonder the miniseries is so successful. With 68 million households watching the show in the first 28 days after its release, it's obvious you don't need to be a chess player to love it.
I got very excited when the actors played opening moves accurately, and I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Beth impersonating Paul Morphy and replaying the Opera Game! Photo: The Queen's Gambit/Netflix. And that’s all there is to it. The Naboo player wins when they shut down the droid control ship and have a majority in the palace throne room. The Trade Federation player wins when he destroys all but 2 of the Naboo palace figures. The Plains of Naboo turn into a huge bloodbath during the game. A victory in this theater isn’t needed to win, but it will certainly help a lot. Game Experience: Muted in color and lighting — the scenes are so dark you’d wonder if anyone owned a lamp during the 60s — The Queen’s Gambit looks as dreary as a rain cloud over a scrapyard outside of the chess matches. It's an odd decision considering the hipness of the swinging’ 60s should allow for the vibrant attire to pop on even the most formal clothing. Even when Beth visits Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Paris, vivid cities with rich architecture, the municipalities are reduced to drab locales. Beth might only see the world in grey, but why must we be subjected to the same dull imagery? Ryan Murphy’s Ratched, a show set during the ‘50s, might have had a terrible story but the series had the pizzazz completely right. The show introduces us to the first chess position of the third episode along with one of its main characters, U.S. champion Benny Watts. He's analyzing a Caro-Kann game and shows a little crowd of bystanders a variation of a game between GM Jacques Mieses and GM Samuel Reshevsky in 1935. Beth suggests a move that loses due to a deflection tactic that would part with her queen. "All pawns and no hope." —Benny Watts about the Caro-Kann.

I still think of the epic light saber duel between Darth Maul and Obi‑Wan Kenobi and Qui‑Gon Jinn as one of the great events in the history of the SW Universe. It was well staged, told an excellent and thrilling story, and made Darth Maul shine, even though he bought it at the end. (oops… spoilers! LOL)
Netflix's The Queen's Gambit: The Boardgame is a board game inspired by the television show. If you're thinking there's already a relevant board game in this situation, you shut your damned mouth. I’m of the 2nd category. Jar Jar Binks doesn’t make me want to have a fit. The Star Wars Special Editions didn’t make me scream out at Lucas for making Greedo shoot first instead of Han Solo (though I prefer the more scoundrel image that Han previously had). It has great components, a nice 3D board, it is assymetrical, each side has different winning conditions. It is very thematic, you really feel like you are in the movie, participating in all battles. It’s rare to see a licensed game, partially a movie based one, that plays this well. I don’t have a whole lot to gripe about with The Queen’s Gambit. If you are a Star Wars fan, or even just a miniatures fan, try and find a copy if you can. Final Thoughts: In The Queen's Gambit: Das Damengambit, you can try to outwit your fellow players by playing with as much foresight as she did. Each of the 2-4 players has their own gambit piece that moves across the chessboard, and your turns are always planned three moves in advance by laying down cards upon which chess pieces are depicted. On your turn, you reveal your first card; move the gambit piece according to what's depicted on that card, ideally capturing chess tiles in the process; then refill your row by placing a third card in your personal queue.The Plains of Naboo: This area is a giant blood bath and probably has the least impact on the game. But that’s not to say it doesn’t have any. When a group of soldiers gets destroyed here, the killing player gains a bonus card for the next round. As only 4 cards are played a round, this can have a huge impact. Ignore this area and your opponent will be activating a lot more troops than you each turn. By now you have probably figured out that I love this game. I really do wish they would make a reprint with some updated components. My copy is starting to show some wear and I’d love to see it with some high quality, painted minis.
