Description

The wine itself is delightfully crisp and elegant, with delicate perlage and a pale straw yellow colour. To taste it has flavours of vibrant apple with peach notes and a delicate, floral and fruity finish. With high-quality judges and a unique sampling process, The Global Prosecco Masters provides a chance for your wines to star. Then there was further variation with source area, with, in particular, the Proseccos from all the DOCGs proving especially fine. Among these, it was the samples from the smaller area of Asolo that stood out for their powerful aromatics and ripe yellow fruit flavours, compensating for the fact that these wines tend to be a bit drier than their equivalents from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Here’s a nice example of the newest official style of Prosecco: rosé. The Glera grape is beefed up with the addition of well-integrated Pinot Noir, giving the wine a refreshing, punchy feel. It even lingers a bit on the finish — good stuff. In the past, jewels were used to adorn the crowns worn by nobility, today they are forged into a bottle of Prosecco.

A balanced Prosecco with deep fruit and a nice, earthy vibe, this is a wonderful example of how the Glera grape expresses itself. The depth is consistently refreshed, but soft yet persistent bubbles wind up to the top of the glass. Focused with chalky hints of pears and good minerality running through, the palate on this sparkler shows very balanced fruit and a refreshing mouthfeel and grippy bubbles. This is an excellent example of DOC Prosecco. The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers. The company's buyers travel extensively to meet with winemakers and taste their wines, ensuring that they only offer the best of the best. This is a great, casual Prosecco. The nose is fun, with floral notes mingling with a bubblegum vibe. The bubbles are calm yet persistent, letting the aromas from the nose carry to the palate with an added pop of sugar. This is a crowd-pleaser for sure. Finally, we had a raft of rosés, as we assessed the quality of producers now making pink Prosecco, since the authorisation to do so in the DOC came in late 2020. These proved to be a delicious addition to the category, with the cherry fruit from the Pinot Noir red wine used to give these Proseccos their colour – usually a pale salmon pink – adding a complementary characteristic to the base wines made with the Glera grape. If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then Prosecco is her soul mate! With Brilla Prosecco by Botter you get both! A balanced wine with tart fruit, Indigenous Selections’ Brut Prosecco offers a focused ripeness that promotes aromas of pears and honey, both lifted by active bubbles. It’s a very buoyant and expressive wine.

Not only do these provide an appealing alternative for those preferring a drink without a hint of sweetness, but also, a lower-calorie apéritif – should that be desirable. The nose is filled with minerals and calm, crisp apple. The palate is refreshing with a slight saline quality that balances the mild yet expressive fruit. A good one to have around. Brilla! is a receptacle of Italianness. Each Prosecco bubble represents a unique moment that makes your life more precious. Every time you open a bottle of Brilla! the magic of Italy unfolds. The 2022 competition was judged on 26 April at 28-50 Chelsea, employing experienced judges. The top wines were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze medals according to their result, and those expressions that stood out as being outstanding in their field received the ultimate accolade – the title of Prosecco Master. This report features the medal winners only.

Delicate and complex bouquet with fruity notes that remind of peach, green apple and lemon. Floral notes of acacia and rose Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific. Lean and balanced with aromas of jasmine, this Prosecco offers a nice minerality that runs through the glass. The palate is full of ripe fruit and even bubbles with a tasty saline quality. For an American brand dipping its toes in an Italian DOC, this bottle is just great. It is a standard-bearer for this style of wine. The fruit is so earthy, and the nose wafts with honey and orchard fruit. The palate is just pure balance, with grippy fruit and playful bubbles. It’s exclusively DTC but so worth the online time. If one considers that Prosecco has increased in production volumes by tenfold in the past 15 years, from around 60 million bottles to more than 600m today, its remarkable how the fizz has reached such a scale while retaining its appealing combination of clean, aromatic peach and pear flavours, with a touch of sweetness, offset by a zesty edge.As for the issue of diversity, there seems to be a broadening of Prosecco styles, with successful results among the differing profiles. In terms of sugar levels, Prosecco does seem to best suit an ‘extra dry’ sweetness (12g-17g/l), with around 13g-15g/l being optimal to fill out the mid-palate without tasting saccharine. However, there appears to be a rising number of Brut and even Extra Brut Proseccos coming on to the market, offering a slightly sharper drinking experience, but, due to the use of fine, ripe fruit, a taste that isn’t too hard.CLIMATE: Temperate, mitigated by the sea, the chain of the Alps protects it from the northern winds. Winters are cold and wet, summers are hot and sultry with medium temperature excursions. Solid. Just straight-up solid. It’s not complex and has a casual, easy-drinking vibe. The fruit is balanced if not very expressive, and that’s OK. Everything is in its right place, making this ideal for a brunch companion or welcome drink. The General Wine Company has two retail stores, one in Liphook and one in Petersfield. The company also offers nationwide delivery. Nice and balanced with soft floral aromas, this wine offers a sweetness that is calm; not overwhelming. The bubbles are persistent and allow the aromas to peek through as you sip.
