Description

I get that it’s near impossible to make a session-style convection vaporizer in a portable, and they did get close, but I would say it’s about ¾ convection and ¼ conduction heating. I will say that it’s one of the best tasting units in this price range, and I was surprised by the amount of convection heating in this size of a vaporizer. To turn on the XMAX v3 Pro vaporizer, you’re going to press the power button three times. The vaporizer will use your default or last temp settings when powering up. Vapor Quality: While The XMAX Starry vaporizer does have better flavor than other conduction units at or below this price, it is still like most conduction vaporizers. Great taste at lower temps, especially on the first couple rips but as the temp goes up and the session goes on, the taste goes downhill. I’m impressed by the performance of the Starry 4 vaporizer. The XMAX Starry 4 is one of the best-performing portable vaporizers in this price range. You get a conduction heating system, a 25-second average heat-up time, and a zirconia mouthpiece to help cool the vapor. I also recommend temp-stepping your sessions. Temp Stepping is when you start the session at a certain temperature, say 360F, then as the session goes on and you take a couple of draws, increase the temp by 10-20 degrees and take a few more draws. Continue this method until the vapor is wispy and loses flavor. The finished flower will look brown to dark brown in color.

X Max Starry V3 Review - The Vape Guide

The Starry is the only one out of the three, with a replaceable battery, which is a leading feature we want in our device. We love swappable batteries because not only can you keep the vapor flowing with a spare, but you don’t end up with a new paper weight if you happen to have a battery fail a year or two down the road. The Starry goes all the way to 464° F, which is higher than most vapes, but still doesn’t combust so if you want to take your herbs to the upper limit you can. Temp Spectrum– The XMAX Starry 4 has a full temp spectrum ranging from 212F to 464F. I personally never go above 410-420 because I feel like the taste tends to drop off quite a bit, and the vapor gets pretty hot on higher temps but you can use the higher temps for concentrate use. To change between Session Mode and On-Deman mode, press and hold the top temp button and the bottom temp button at the same time for two seconds. Each I've bought has lasted a solid 1-2 years before having any issues, and the patient will find those issues manageable for months longer. The hinge tends to get a bit loose (after a year) and makes maintaining a connection through the battery more difficult. Pressing on the base of the vape and holding it is usually enough to fix initial startup problems, and once the hinge begins acting up it behaves best over 330 degrees. I've found it to be well worth the price, with easily handled problems later in its life if you want to hold off on a replacement.

XMAX Starry Vaporizer POTV (V3) - Planet of the Vapes (Canada) XMAX Starry Vaporizer POTV (V3) - Planet of the Vapes (Canada)

I would get the XMAX V3 Pro if you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive portable vaporizer with industry-leading features, above-average vapor quality, and don’t mind the little quirks like buttons that make noise when you shake the unit. I always know when I like the feel of a portable vape when I find myself fiddling with it while using it, and I can’t stop playing with the Starry. Draw Resistance: The draw resistance is about average when clean but goes up when dirty. The biggest contributor to the draw resistance is the mouthpiece/screen. It tends to clog up after multiple sessions so it’s important to brush out the chamber and mouthpiece after every session. I also try not to leave herbs in the chamber after a session. When possible I Immediately dump the bowl to help keep down on cleaning.

Good vapor quality

The exact dimensions of the Starry 4 are 4.5 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide and weighs roughly 138 grams. The list below shows everything included with the Starry 4 Vaporizer from Planet of the Vapes. The new mouthpiece silicone caps are pretty handy for group sessions and the dosing capsule keeps things nice and clean for easy maintenance.

The “POTV” XMAX Starry 4 version features an upgraded 18650 with a 3200mah capacity versus a 2550mah in the original Topgreen model. Other than that, the only thing different is the POTV logo, and while I have both units, most of the photos in this Starry 4 review will be with the POTV version. Only use a soft q-tip soaked in alcohol to clean the oven. The ceramic oven will never look as good as it did when it was brand new. Please just remove any resin buildup but don't try to remove the stains as this could damage the ceramic oven and void your warranty. The Starry’s magnetic mouthpiece should only be cleaned with warm water and mild dishwashing detergent. Warranty The Starry will leave you feeling like you got a great deal! The build quality is unmatched at this size and price point and it gets even better with the ceramic zirconia mouthpiece, magnetic lid and removable battery. I prefer a medium to a fine grind with the XMAX V3 pro, and be sure to stir after a couple of draws to get the most of your herb. Each of these modes will vary the amount of battery life pretty significantly as it takes more time to heat the chamber repeatedly than it does to maintain a constant steady temperature. I’ll get more into the details of the battery life below.

Charging

It performs well, has all the important features like a removable battery and full digital temperature control, and is probably going to be a hit even if you’ve already got other vapes. The Starry vaporizer is about the same size as the Pax 2. Maybe a smidgen wider but very close. The Starry weighs roughly 120 grams with the battery in which is about 30 grams more than the Pax 2.

To turn on the Starry, hold the power button for three seconds. The two smaller buttons adjust the temperature up and down, and it will immediately start heating up to the last temperature. The coffee cup icon will blink while it heats up, and turns solid when it’s time to vape.

Intuitive controls

The XMax Starry is well made and offers great value considering its price. It offers features usually seen in more expensive vaporizers such as aluminum shell, precise temperature control, LCD screen, and replaceable battery. I GIVE IT A 10! 10! What more can you ask for? The XMAX Starry features a replaceable battery system with a rechargeable 2550mAh 18650 and a USB-C charger. I’m averaging about 45 minutes of use via the session mode, which averages about 5-6 bowls with the 4-minute session timer. I’m usually able to kill the bowl in two, four-minute sessions, which equal about 8-10 draws. I’m usually inhaling for about 10-15 seconds and then take a 30-45 second break in between draws. The XMAX Starry 4 is an upgraded version of the XMAX Starry V3. Upgrades on the new Starry 4 include:
