About this deal

Rob Burrow can no longer talk and yet, on a rainy bank holiday evening at home in Pontefract, he answers another of my questions about life and death. It feels almost magical as his familiar Yorkshire voice fills the room even though Burrow is smiling gently rather than moving his lips. “I don’t think you ever know your inner strength until you get told you are dying,” says the former Leeds Rhinos rugby league international who is a prisoner in his own body. “I would never have known I could be this positive when getting the news.” Man United drop HUGE hint that Jadon Sancho's time at the club is OVER... with fans convinced outcast has been omitted from team photo

EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Hearn says he 'felt in his gut' that Tyson Fury LOST to Francis Ngannou in their 'Battle of the Baddest' showdown on The Hook I'm a life-long Castleford Tigers fan so trust me when I say it's not easy to read parts of a story from the perspective of the person who inflicted some of the misery on your team, getting to see what might have been from the side that celebrated rather than the side left wondering what might have been! I ask Rob if he worries about not being able to swallow one day, which would mean the insertion of a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) so he can be fed through a tube. “I have not thought about that part of my journey,” he says. “I hope to get a bit better through various treatments. I think I will improve.” Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney announces new 'Parks and Wrex' project in hilarious video with actor Chris Pratt as birthday gift for Ryan Reynolds Premier League reveal their festive fixture calendar with Wolves vs Chelsea first Christmas Eve game in 28 years, just two football-free days in a fortnight

Rob Burrow is one of the greatest rugby league players of all time. And the most inspirational. As a boy, Rob was told he was too small to play the sport. Even when he made his debut for Leeds Rhinos, people wrote him off as a novelty. But Rob never stopped proving people wrong. But, as she explains, “It keeps your mind off things. When I sit down on the bad days and think: ‘Actually this is happening, this is our life,’ it hits you. But the kids keep us busy and there’s never a dull moment, is there, Rob? I’d much rather that than feeling sorry for myself. But I always worried about the long-term effects of concussion. He played games and he was not able to remember scoring tries or he didn’t know the score afterwards. So I worried about Rob getting some form of dementia or Alzheimer’s – which is irrelevant now.” At the end of the day she has to assist me upstairs and put me to bed. She’s also mummy to our three kids – a sort of single parent now. She gives 110% in her role as a physiotherapist, always wanting to help others and putting everyone before herself.”Man United's Harry Maguire and Mason Mount join Erik ten Hag and other first-team stars in making heart-warming memories with fans at club charity day One of his autobiography’s central themes is how Rob was doubted for so long by people who thought he was far too small to make it in rugby league. Of course, in later years, his speed, intelligence and bravery made such doubts redundant. “I played to my strengths,” Rob explains. “I had speed and agility. I didn’t try to be anything I wasn’t. I never had any doubts. I’m tougher than I look.” Sir Bobby Charlton is honoured ahead of Manchester United's game with FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford as club pay emotional tribute Paolo di Canio reveals he rejected Saudi Arabia assistant job offer after being approached by Roberto Mancini - but insists he 'didn't just say no to oil money' This is the story of a tiny kid who adored rugby league but never should have made it - and ended up in the Leeds hall of fame. It's the story of a man who resolved to turn a terrible predicament into something positive - when he could have thrown the towel in. It's about the power of love, between Rob and his childhood sweetheart Lindsey, and of the life-changing bond of friendship between Rob, Kevin Sinfield, and their Rhino teammates.

The 40-year-old, Leeds Rhinos Hall of Fame star, has written two new books in partnership with Macmillan Children's Books. The first, a "beautiful gift book" for all ages called With You Every Step: A Celebration of Friendship comes out on November 9. It's a blatent cliche, but this is a sporting story that is a tale of two halves. Rob Burrow tells his story of twice playing the underdog to become an unlikely Rugby League star and then in his fight against MND not long after his retirement. He approaches both with a strong willed determination that you cannot help but find inspiring. The book helped me understand how much Rob still wants to be treated normally. And so even after we talk about difficult subjects he tells me about his enduring love of The Office and how he watched Line of Duty with Lindsey while “trying to work out who ‘H’ was before the final episode – to no avail. I loved watching it with Lindsey because she never has a spare minute. The game was actually level again with 10 minutes left so I thought it was time to rip up the playbook and freestyle again. This time I was just inside our half when I got the ball. I went on a lateral run, before straightening up and throwing a dummy and setting up a try for Ryan Hall.
