About this deal

She has a very matter-of-fact tone, which I’d normally like, except it was coupled with 20/20 hindsight; she doesn’t really bring the reader along with her. He hovered over me to listen, not because he believed there was any real problem but because I was generally a little shit teenager who was probably lying and had liar pals. Outside of television, Katherine has sold-out venues across the world with her unique stand-up shows. I thought there were a lot of interesting stories in this and I definitely loved hearing Katherine Ryan narrate them herself.

So, I love Katherinne Ryan for her Netflix comedy special Glitter Room, so I was pretty pumped when I found out she was releasing a book. You will learn:How to Become The Most Popular Girl in SchoolHow to Waste All Your Money on Designer DogsHow to Attract Toxic Men. The thread that runs through this book is Ryan’s incredible work ethic, whether it’s comedy, mothering or waitressing at Hooters she puts her all into it. When she came off stage after that first set, where she joked about being a “dumb, useless girl”, she realised nothing had made her feel so shit and so alive all at once. For the most part, I thought it was a interesting and very honest autobiography, but I found there were some cheap jokes and at times it was a bit boring. As my mother always said, 'Katherine, if we all liked the same thing, we'd all be married to your father'. Trolls, hecklers, critics, people who reel at the way she paints a picture of single motherhood in pastels and glitter rather than concentrating on exhaustion or shame.

Katherine created, starred in, wrote and executive produced her Netflix Original sitcom, The Duchess, which was released in September 2020 and leapt to the top of the UK chart. The year after winning Miss Hooters Toronto, Ryan hosted the pageant, asking contestants questions like, “Alicia, where do we keep the bin bags? Her latest stand-up show, Glitter Room, had a four-week sold-out run at London's Garrick Theatre following a sell-out nationwide tour. From the star of The Duchess and the host of 'Telling Everybody Everything', the debut book from superstar comedian Katherine Ryan.

And then, after 18 months of pregnancy, she had Fred, who vibrates gently in his chair beside her now, legs like ice-cream. Before she reunited with Bobby, she’d planned to have a second child using donor sperm, but the week after she wrapped filming on The Duchess, in December 2019, she got pregnant.

As my mother always said, "Katherine, if we all liked the same thing, we’d all be married to your father. Particularly enjoyed her reflections about a string of ‘diabolical’ male partners and sexism within the comedy industry. The most controversial of her stories I think, and the one sure to raise a number of hackles, far more than her “man-hating” jokes, is the story of how she’d potty trained her daughter by 10 months. Secrets are my favourite things to be told and I figured I’d better tell a few juicy ones myself, too.I'm often asked how I developed my lurid level of courage and assurance and for tips on how others can match. I listened on Audible as I love to hear authors reading their own stories and I find Katherine’s voice very appealing. The stories were in turns powerful, moving, biting, hilarious, snarky, sweet, meaningful and lovingly frivolous - this book really felt like an honest tour through a complex life and I wish I was half as cool as Katherine and her embrace of audacity. At the time, I thought that it was a good way of demonstrating that if you haven’t raped anyone, then it’s a ridiculous question.

The top 10 films are then viewed by an independent judging panel of top television and film industry professionals who will choose one overall winner and two runners up. Was given it as a gift by my partner's parents which, as I've never expressed any interest in Katherine Ryan, I thought was Audacious but it turns out they secretly know me and I really enjoyed it. I do believe that you can be a soul somewhere who moves chess pieces together so that you can be born. The Uvalde shooting had happened and my book about raising kids just felt a bit too heartbreaking to read, so I thought a chapter or two of Katherine Ryan would tide me over and I would do my usual trick of leisurely reading a non-fiction book over a period of weeks or months. I wish that I had been more honest and courageous in my exit strategies, but I know that I did the best I could at the time and I calculated risk based on the information I had.
