Description

Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Averted with Lady Bai, who has no interest in competing with Zhang Chunhua as Sima Yi's favorite. Played Straight with Elder Princess Liu, who attempted to undermine Lady Zhen's position and is at odds with Lady Guo. Sima Yong (Zikui)'s son was Sima Chong. Sima Chong had a younger brother, Sima Long. [40] Sima Wang [ edit ] As the illusory Sun and Moon appear from the horizon, the opponent's forte would be rendered useless, while their hidden weaknesses would be revealed. Goes into full-blown Downer Ending when one considers the fate of the Sima clan during the Jin Dynasty. note Both Sima Shi and Zhao died younger than their parents (Shi in 255 CE at about 47, Zhao in 265 CE at about 54). Shi did not have a son as heir, so Zhao sent his son You to become his brother's heir. This in turn led to one of the causes of the civil war, as You was suspected by his full brother Yan of having designs on the imperial throne; the suspicions led You to die in 283 CE, before the age of 40. You's son Jiong then became one of the titular eight princes of the civil war. The civil war led to the weakening of the Western Jin, which eventually lost the north and had to retreat to the south, re-establishing itself as the Eastern Jin. Shi's and Zhao's branches of the clan were almost completely destroyed, while many Eastern Jin emperors also became political puppets to powerful court officials. Mark Edward Lewis (2011). China Between Empires: The Northern and Southern Dynasties. Harvard University Press. p.63. ISBN 9780674060357.

Zhong Hui and Deng Ai are portrayed as contemporaries when Zhong Hui wouldn't be born for another five years after Deng Ai's first appearance in the series. The series also gave Zhong an Age Lift. note Historically, Deng was about 28 years older than Zhong; in turn, Deng was 18 years younger than Sima Yi. Also, Zhong was portrayed as an adult during Cao Cao's reign as King of Wei; historically, he was born in 225 CE, near the end of Cao Pi's reign as emperor. Besides plot reasons, giving Zhong an Age Lift also deflects attention from the fact that Zhong Yao was in his 70s when Hui was born. Chan Mou's manhua series The Ravages of Time is a fictionalised retelling of the history of the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms, with Sima Yi as the central character. He had a son with Lady Zhang: Sima Rong. Sima Rong had no son and was succeeded by Sima Xi (司馬禧), a son of Sima Zhou's son Sima Dan. [11] Sima Gui (Zizhang) had no son. He was succeeded by his nephew Sima Ji, a son of Sima Fu (Prince Cheng of Taiyuan). [35]Sibling Yin-Yang: Cao Zhi is a poet and scholar while Cao Zhang a gruff, seasoned general. Cao Pi lays somewhere in the middle, though leans slightly towards Zhang's side due to being fairly temperamental. Blessed with great intelligence from a young age, Sima Yi is one of China's greatest strategists. Loyal only to himself, he schemes and plots to outwit Zhuge Liang and pave the way for his own family to usurp the throne and establish a new dynasty. Historically, Sima Yi recognized Deng Ai's talent between 235 and 239 CE, while he was Grand Commandant (Cao Rui himself died on the first day of the Lunar New Year of 239, which corresponds to 22 January 239 in the Julian calendar).

Institute of Advanced Studies, Australian National University (December 1991). "East Asian History" (PDF). eastasianhistory.org . Retrieved 2019-07-29. After Sima Ai's death, Sima Ying appointed himself Prime Minister and promoted Sima Yue to President of State Secretariat. Despite his new position, Ying kept Emperor Hui at Luoyang, leaving behind an army of 50,000 under Shi Chao while he returned to his base in Ye. On April 304, he imprisoned the empress, Yang Xianrong, and depose his nephew, Sima Tan from the position of Crown Prince. On 1 May, Ying was installed as Crown Prince and his power was described as being equal to that of Cao Cao during the end of the Han dynasty. Sima Yong was also appointed the Grand Governor and Grand Commander. As Crown Prince, Ying was said to have become more brazen and extravagant in his actions and was inclined towards favoritism, which lost him some of the goodwill from his supporters. [18] Battle of Dangyin [ edit ] Cao Zhi felt no ill will towards his father's decision. However, the fact his wife was actually in love with his rival for the throne and younger brother did not help Cao Pi's massive Inferiority Superiority Complex. Sima Zhao had nine sons and two daughters. Five of his sons – Sima Yan, Sima You, Sima Zhao, Sima Dingguo and Sima Guangde – were born to his wife Wang Yuanji, but only the two eldest survived childhood. They also had a daughter – Princess Jingzhao, whose personal name is unknown. Princess Jingzhao married Zhen De after Zhen's first wife ( Sima Shi's daughter) died early. [19] Wang Yuanji's father was Wang Su. Wang Su's father was Wang Lang. [20] Sima Zhao's four other sons – Sima Jian, Sima Ji, Sima Yongzuo and Sima Yanzuo – were not born to Wang Yuanji. Sima Yongzuo and Sima Yanzuo both died young. The identities of their mothers are unknown. [21] [22] [23] Sima Zhao's other daughter, Princess Changshan, married Wang Ji (王濟), a grandson of Wang Chang. The identity of her mother is also unknown. [24] Sima Gan [ edit ] Appeal to Tradition: Cao Cao sees Pi's supporters as this, them being unwilling to consider the possibility that talent should trump morality or tradition.

Cao Chong's note that Sima Yi closely resembled his father (during the former's re-enactment of the recruitment scene at the stables) is a nod to the two men's elevation as emperors posthumously. Empress Jia enlisted the help of Sima Liang and the Prince of Chu, Sima Wei to overthrow Yang Jun. Liang was reluctant to help her, but Wei agreed and left his fief for the capital, Luoyang with his troops. On the night of 23 April 291, Empress Jia and her allies sent out an imperial edict calling for the deposal of Yang Jun and occupied the gates leading to his residence. Yang Jun was caught by surprise and was unable to decide on his next move. Empress Dowager Yang Zhi tried to get the soldiers to turn on Empress Jia, but failed and implicated herself in the process.

Sima Yi appears as a playable character in Koei's Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi video game series. As You Know: In one episode, Sima Yi explains the meaning of a ballad to Cao Cao , which is redundant as while Cao may not have known the lyrics beforehand, given his literary accomplishments, he would have been able to grasp the meaning of the song by himself. note Said song was "At Fifteen I Joined the Army on Expedition" ("Shíwǔ Cóngjūn Zhēng", 十五從軍征), made famous in the West by its inclusion in Total War: Three Kingdoms The Coup: Years of meticulous planning and close calls results in Sima Yi leading a revolt to remove Cao Shuang from power. Cui Yan’s willing execution bit the bullet for Cao Pi and spurred Sima Yi to find the real writer behind the letter. Sima Yong held out in Chang'an until around December 306 or January 307. Around this time, Yue sought for peace by issuing an edict to appoint Yong as Minister Over the Masses. Yong believed that Yue's intentions were genuine, and so he left Chang'an for Luoyang. However, along the way, he was intercepted by a general of Sima Mo at Xin'an, who had him strangled in his carriage. [24] [25] Aftermath [ edit ] 317 AD

Summary
