I tired quickly of the several swooping Phoenix visuals, designed to convey the immense scope of its power, but that's really more of a failing of the script than Romita's storytelling. So if Millar has something (or someone) of a similar calibre up his sleeve for this, then that could really step things up a gear. Inker/colorist Peter Steigerwald does help add a darker, harsher coat to Romita's work, but that doesn't do much to make the blocky figures seem more grounded in reality.

Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. That only further divorces this book from reality and diminishes what should be one of its big selling points. If you approach the book as a fun exploration of the misadventures of a wannabe superhero, you'll probably enjoy it a lot more than someone who is looking for more serious insight or commentary on the genre. His children portrayals remain unusual, with bulky heads seemingly defying gravity, but that is a minor complain to an overall great issue. Kick-Ass seems like the equivalent of junk food for the brain, and whilst that sounds like a damning criticism, it's not meant to be; it's just an honest description of the way this story feels. Do note the effects and transparencies added on a cigar’s smoke over the last few pages: it has a sense of volume and shade that is mesmerizing for something so mundane.

He and artist Bryan Hitch pulled it all off in spades: The Ultimates and its sequel, Ultimates 2, were ensconced at the top of the sales charts every month; what's more, they were critical successes, as well. With his super-hero secret identity gaining fans due to a popular viral video, and other masked vigilantes beginning to make their presence felt in the city, Dave knows that his extracurricular activity is dangerous, maybe even stupid - but he's got the itch, and it ain't going away. The girls toy aisles aren't our regular ball park but we occasionally like to try something different to our norm. The polish of the story may have been tarnished with the sequels and as such, the two co-creators, Millar and Romita JR have taken the wise step of starting over. This New York Times bestseller became a worldwide phenomenon overnight, spending three months at the top spot on the Diamond Direct Market chart and spawning the Kick-Ass movie that opened at No.What follows that sequence are much calmer scenes back in the US, where Romita shows his skills to keep interest high with what are essentially talking heads, commutes and backyard pool conversations. Does the change on scenario, lead and themes drive readers away from “Kick-Ass”, or was it just what was needed to reinvigorate the franchise?

Lately, I've noticed he seems to reserve his more meticulous, focused and deliberate work for creator-owned projects such as Kick-Ass, whereas his linework on splashier corporate comics is a lot looser. KICK-ASS IS BACK—ready to wipe out the city's criminal lowlives, destroy its gangs, and save its communities from decay.

This is a brand new (though familiar) world for Kick-Ass, and hopefully this new take on the universe and a new home at Image comics proves successful for Patience. This book does feel and look more cinematic than the original Kick Ass, but doesnt seem to have as strong of a start as a comic book itself. Issue one kickstarts this brand new series with a bang and really sets itself apart from theDavid Lizewski tales, Patience is a breath of fresh air and genuinely kicks ass! There is one particular bit when Patience’s husband is introduced that is so precise, with his personality revealed on the twitch of a smirk, that one cannot avoid but to congratulate the artist. For all that the book aims to show us ordinary people playing at being superheroes, the violence is often stylized and exaggerated to the point where any sense of reality is washed away.
